A Couple of days ago, a strange thing occurred while searching in Google India.
I was looking out for an airlines ticket booking website airtickets.gr whose head office was located in Greece. While keying the search term, I committed a typo and searched for “airickets.gr” instead of “airtickets.gr”
However, I was shocked to see Google Search Result Page since it contained some Image Ads of one of the major airlines in India “Jet Airways”
Screenshot was immediately taken as it was something new for me. After a little research I reached here which says that Google was running a test to show banner ads on branded search results.
I was taken aback since my search term was not related to any brand yet Image Ads popped out in SERP.
I did tried to research a bit more about it and reached here. The comments suggests that Google users are comfortable with image ads only if it shows for brands while my search was not related to any brand.
It may be something to cheer for PPC Management Company, however it added as a Fuel to the Fire for SEO Companies which are already facing a tough time with Google’s Frequent Penguin Update.
I found an article about Google SERP here which says that in 2005 Google Posted that “There will be no banner ads on the Google homepage or Web search results pages. There will not be crazy, flashy, graphical doodads flying and popping up all over the Google site. Ever”. This blog was posted by Marissa Mayer.
Concluding it I can only say that it may be a Good Revenue Generator for the Company but can also have a negative impact of visitor looking our for other Search Engine which provides relevant Organic results.
